Week 5.... Zanzibar part 1

5th WEEK IN ARUSHA... WELL ZANZIBAR

We can't believe how quickly time has flown in the past few weeks but we soon arrived in Zanzibar, after what felt like a 10 minute flight.

The island of Zanzibar is about the same distance as Belfast is to London, so it's not far at all.

We heard some really good things about the island, therefore we were so excited to arrive for a bit of chill time, away from noisy Arusha

Our rooms...

Delux,

Then demoted to a cliff side,

It was still great we spent all day on the beach anyway!!

We stayed in the north of the island, which is more party and excursion orientated. To be honest, that's all we really got up to! We didn't have one single day in the week where we did nothing.

Not long after arrival, we got chatting to some of the "beach boys" who helped tourists organise fun things to do. They're names were quite funny. We managed to bargain with Captain Eric, or so he called himself, in order to go on a snorkelling trip. This was so much fun! We pretty much lay on the top of the boat until we were able to grab our flippers, masks and goggles and jump in with what felt like was the whole cast of finding nemo! Minus nemo though, sad times. Seen plenty of colourful fish, just wish we had an underwater camera with us! After snorkelling and getting stung buy some unknown creature/fish, we sailed to a desert island and were served rice, vegetables and fresh tuna fish, smashing ending to a brilliant day!

After having been snorkelling, we managed to find out about a turtle sanctuary not far from our hotel thanks to a man from Hungary. It was around a ten minute taxi ride to Baraka Aquarium and only cost around £4 to swim with REALLY HUGE turtles. At first we thought, awk, it'll just be wee baby things. NO. Absolutely massive, prehistoric beauties! The sanctuary included 16 sea turtles in total, plus loads of fish. The guide that kindly offered to take our photographs must have been wetting himself at us both. We were petrified at first of getting into the lake as the sea turtles were huge. We got the chance to feed them seaweed for a bit too as they need to eat 100 kilos of the stuff, PER DAY.

We soon got in the water which was amazingly clear and warm too. The guide threw a bit too much seaweed near Angie for a laugh and she almost got mauled by a 29 year old turtle, haha.

The guy is clearly a secret photographer for capturing this moment. Other than that, it was a great experience as I've only ever seen a sea turtle like those from a great distance.

While in Zanzibar we at at the same restaurant almost about every night, it was called Essence, got friendly with all the staff and the food was lovely!

Got my pizza wrapped up to go hahaha!!
